FAQ

Q. Are your prices and services the same as in-house grooming salons?

A. Mobile grooming is a little higher than in-house groomers but my services are the same and the convenience, time savings and less stress on your pet are well worth the small additional charge:

  • Mobile grooming is very convenient and saves you the hassle of planning your day around “drop off” and “pick up times” and driving in heavy traffic.
  • With gas over two dollars a gallon, you save the expense of trips to the in-house groomer.
  • With mobile grooming, there is no car sickness, no dirt and “dirty dog smell” on your vehicle's seats, no stress on your pet from sitting in a noisy grooming salon for hours, and no separation anxiety.
  • With mobile grooming your pet is groomed in a quiet, sanitary, one-on-one environment and builds a relationship with me.
  • Mobile grooming is ideal for busy professionals, busy families, elderly people, and people with disabilities.
  • We can perform most all services provided by in-house groomers. Our professionally-built trailer-mounted salon is equipped with all the equipment normally found in an in-house grooming salon. We have the Bathing Beauty ® hydro-massage bathing system, a clipper vacuum system, a powerful blow dryer, and a very good restraint system for holding the pet while on the grooming table that reduces the chance of injury and speeds the process. Our salon is also air conditioned and heated.

Q. Can I watch or maybe help you groom my dog?

A. It is essential that the pet respond to me. Experience has shown that when the owner is present the pet may not respond to or be confrontational to a stylist. We also want your pet to get to know us and to develop a relationship so that your pet does not mind the grooming procedure. Therefore, we must ask you to allow us to be alone with your pet.

Q. Do you do custom haircuts?

A. Yes, I will try to do (within reason and within my ability) what the owner desires. We will discuss the details and arrive at a mutually agreeable price. I will do summer “shave downs” or “lion cuts” etc. for example.

Q. How often should I have my pet groomed?

A. We recommend setting up a maintenance grooming schedule of at least every four to six weeks. With regular grooming, your pet's coat will stay in good shape, shedding is reduced, fleas and ticks can be better controlled and your pet will just look and feel better.

Q. What are your normal business hours?

A. Normally, we schedule appointments from 9 AM to around 3 PM Monday through Friday.

Q. How long does it take you to groom most dogs?

A. That depends on the size of the dog, thickness of the coat, haircut and any other services required or requested. I start immediately once I have the pet in the salon. I can usually complete most grooming in an hour and a half or less.

Q. Do I have to be at home when you groom my dog?

A. After the initial visit we will work out an arrangement with you to groom your pet when you are not at home if that is more convenient for you. Please see the details and requirements in the Policy Statement on the Services Page of the website.

Q. Is there anything I need to do at my location for you to groom my pet?

A. Yes, there are several things you can do to aid me in my visit to your location.

  • Please allow your pet to go out and “do his or her business” before I arrive. Sometimes pets get nervous and will urinate or have a bowel movement in my salon.
  • If possible, please do not feed your pet within an hour before I arrive. Nervous pets will sometimes get sick and throw up inside my salon. I may also have to use treats to gain the pet's friendship and confidence. It can make the job difficult if the pet is not hungry.
  • Please locate an 110V electrical outlet on the outside of your house or office that is within 100 feet of where I must park. I must connect an extension cord to power the mobile salon.
  • Inspect your location and identify my best parking and entering and exiting route so that I do not have interference with buildings, vehicles, or other obstructions.
  • If you live in a gated community or other arrangement where security must be notified, please notify them prior to the appointment.

Q. Do you need to connect to the water at my location? Do you drain the bath water at my location?

A. My mobile salon has a self-contained, heated water tank, so I will only need to connect to your 110V electrical power to operate. My mobile salon is equipped with a drain tank that holds the dirty bath water. We do not contaminate your location in any way.

Q. My dog's coat is long and severely matted. Can you get out the mats and comb out the coat?

A. That depends. If the coat is extremely matted, it may be more practical, cost effective, and easier on your dog to give it a short haircut to remove the mats and get the coat in good shape. Regular maintenance will prevent this problem from reoccurring. We will discuss these situations and arrive at a mutually agreeable solution once we examine the pet.

Q. Do you groom large breed dogs?

A. Yes, I will groom large breeds if I can physically handle them and they will allow me to groom them.

Q. Do you groom cats?

A. Yes, I will groom cats. Cats can be quite a handful. As with dogs, the price is determined by the size and temperament of the cat and the length of the coat.

Q. My dog's teeth are very dirty and he has bad breath. Can you help with these problems?

A. I highly recommend the Petzlife® dental treatment for plaque removal. This treatment will provide amazing results and save the expense of veterinary teeth cleaning, which is expensive and requires the pet being anesthetized. I am a dealer for this product and carry it in the mobile salon.

Q. My dog's coat is dull; he sheds a lot and scratches all the time? Will grooming help with these problems?

A. Regular grooming will greatly help with these problems, but the pet's diet and allergies may also be contributing to these situations. We may recommend giving your dog a dietary supplement, such as NuVet Plus® in addition to a regular maintenance program. Use of this supplement has proven to help with these and many other problems. Read the testimonials on the NuVet website, which is accessible from the Links Page on this website.

Q. My dog seems to be in pain when getting up and down. Is there anything I can do to help him?

A. Your dog may be suffering from osteoarthritis or hip dysplasia. I highly recommend NuVet Joint Plus® supplement (see Links page). This is an anti-inflammatory hip and joint therapy that has proven to enhance pet's mobility and help to reverse and defend against the effects of osteoarthritis. Read the testimonials on the NuVet website, which is accessible from the Links Page on this website. Take your pet to a veterinarian for a thorough examination if you feel it may have a medical problem.
